What happens before and after you enjoy our meals matters to us.

We’re proud to have a number of sustainability initiatives. By integrating these practices into our daily operations, we’re able to minimize our environmental impact.

KICK THE CUP

Help keep paper cups out of the trash by bringing your own reusable, travel mug instead of getting your beverage in a disposable cup.

When you use your own mug, you’ll also get a $0.10 – $0.25 discount – but the real prize is knowing you’re helping contribute to a more sustainable campus.

GREEN TO GO

Green to Go cuts down campus waste by giving students, staff and faculty the option of getting their food in a reusable, plastic container – instead of the typical compostable takeout container.

Here’s how it works:

STEP 1

When you order your meal at a participating location, ask for it to be in a Green To Go container.

STEP 2

When you pay for your meal, ask the cashier for a Green to Go stamp card.

STEP 3

Return your Green to Go container to the cashier in the Building 6 Cafeteria and get your card stamped.

STEP 4

Collect 10 stamps to receive a free meal at a partner location! (Value of $10)

URBAN BEEKEEPING PROJECT

The Urban Beekeeping Project, a partnership between MacEwan University Campus Services and the Office of Sustainability, launched in 2016 with the installation of a bee hotel — a resting place for pollinating bees on the move — and four rooftop Flow™ hives.

As of 2019, our roof now has six hives, which have yielded more than 400 pounds of raw honey for retail sale and integration into your meals. In 2018, we also released our first batch of MacEwan Honey Vinaigrette: a delicious blend of citrus, mustard and of course, honey.

Get your own jars of honey and vinaigrette at our annual Fall Harvest Sale. Follow us on social media for updates on the next sale.
